In addition to lines for sinks and service areas, dedicated networks are necessary for the supply of dental units and sterilization autoclaves. A reverse osmosis or demineralization system is often provided to ensure impurity-free water, reducing the risks of bacterial contamination and extending the lifespan of the equipment. The pipes must be made of materials suitable to prevent stagnation and microbial colonization, with slopes and non-return valves designed to ensure hygiene and continuity of flow.

Compressed air system

Compressed air is an essential resource for the operation of high-precision dental instruments, such as turbines and pneumatic micromotors. The compressors used must be oil-free and equipped with multi-level drying and filtration systems, capable of providing clean, dry air at a constant pressure. The system should be sized according to the number of operational stations, ensuring redundancy and quietness so as not to compromise the acoustic comfort of the office. Periodic checks of filters and tanks are essential to maintain air quality and equipment safety.

Suction system

The centralized suction system is essential for managing aerosols, biological liquids, and debris produced during dental treatments. It must be designed with adequate capacity for the number of dental units and equipped with amalgam separators in compliance with environmental regulations, to prevent the dispersion of heavy metals into wastewater. The extracted air must be filtered and directed outside to maintain high hygiene standards and reduce the risk of contamination. Particular attention must be paid to noise reduction and ease of maintenance, to ensure operational continuity without discomfort for patients and operators.

Data network

The data network (LAN) constitutes the digital infrastructure of the dental office, supporting management software, electronic storage of medical records, digital radiographic imaging, and CAD/CAM systems for prosthetics. It must be implemented with structured cabling of high category (Cat. 6 or higher) or fiber optics, to ensure speed, stability, and security of connections. A well-sized and scalable network also allows for the integration of control cameras and IoT solutions for intelligent management of systems.

A practical case study

Here is a practical example of a dental office design that you could use as a reference for your project and that could support you from a technical perspective.

Let’s suppose we have an area of about 150 square meters on one level, suitable for accommodating a dental practice that is compliant with urban planning and hygiene regulations.

Reception | Render created with Edificius

At the entrance there is the reception. Spaces for dirty-clean storage, cabinets for materials, and technical rooms are also necessary.

How should the pathways for patients and staff be organized within the dental office?

It is essential to avoid interference between the pathways of patients, doctors, and staff. The most common solutions involve separating public and clinical areas, with a strategically placed reception, restrooms close to the waiting room, and corridors dedicated to staff. In some cases, connecting doors between clinical rooms are used to facilitate the movement of operators, while considering the implications for privacy and acoustics.

What technological systems are indispensable in a dental office?

The essential systems include: water system with osmosis systems and sanitary pipes, compressed air system with oil-free compressors and filtration systems, centralized suction system with amalgam separators and external discharge, high-speed data network for management software and digital imaging, and electrical system compliant with regulations. High color rendering LED lighting (CRI > 90) with dynamic control systems should also be provided.

Useful tips for organizing spaces and correctly designing the electrical system: here’s how to plan a dental office

[46
1335,4896,4937,5231,5092
post-12205","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-bim-project-example","tag-newsletter-132","tag-newsletter-161","tag-newsletter-199","tag-newsletter-411","tag-newsletter-intro07
<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v27.8 (Yoast SEO v27.8) -
