How to read, edit and add them to an IFC model<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In this post we will take a closer look at what <code>IfcPropertySet<\/code> is, what it is used for and how a user can edit it.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll also show you how to practically use an online <a class=\"textualLink_usbim-editor\" href=\"https:\/\/www.accasoftware.com\/en\/advanced-ifc-editor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IFC editor<\/a>\u00a0for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>reading the entity properties of your 3D model;<\/li>\n<li>adding custom properties;<\/li>\n<li>editing existing properties.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"ifcpropertysetdefinition\"><code>IfcPropertySet<\/code>definition<\/h2>\n<p><code>IfcPropertySet<\/code> is a <strong>set of properties that can be assigned to an IFC model object<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The properties contained in this set can be of two types:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>predefined;<\/li>\n<li>additional \/ customized (ie user defined).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The<strong> predifined properties<\/strong> within a property set are defined as part of the standard; they are automatically generated by the <em>authoring<\/em> software that we used to model the project and are listed in the specifications of each entity of the 3D model.<\/p>\n<p>These properties are identified by a string with the <em>Name<\/em> attribute which needs be of the type: <em>Pset_NAME<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>To read and verify the properties assigned to each entity in your project:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>log in to <a href=\"https:\/\/cloud.usbim.com\/home\/workspaces\">usBIM<\/a> with your ACCA account;<\/li>\n<li>upload the IFC file to the usBIM cloud;<\/li>\n<li>open the file by clicking on the screen icon to the right;<\/li>\n<li>select the entity;<\/li>\n<li>read property values directly in the properties toolbox.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_28315\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-28315\" class=\"size-full wp-image-28315\" src=\"https:\/\/biblus.accasoftware.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/11\/Identifying-an-IfcObject-IfcWindow-and-their-properties.jpg\" alt=\"IfcPropertySet: the properties of IFC objects.\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-28315\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Identifying an IfcObject (IfcWindow) and its properties with usBIM<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In addition to the predefined properties, you can also define <strong>custom properties<\/strong>, i.e. those added to the model directly by the user. These properties follow a non-standardized but conventionally chosen nomenclature among the different actors involved in the construction process<\/p>\n<p>To know more about the <code>IfcPropertySet<\/code>, take a look at the article <a href=\"https:\/\/biblus.accasoftware.com\/en\/ifc-schema-part-3-the-ifcpropertydefinition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;IFC schema: IfcPropertyDefinition&#8221;.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Further on this article, we\u2019ll show you an example that shows how to add and edit the custom properties of a 3D model.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"what-is-theifcpropertysetfor\">What is the<code>IfcPropertySet<\/code>for?<\/h2>\n<p>The <code>IfcPropertySet<\/code>, being a proprietary container, serves to communicate project information to all the actors involved and throughout a building\u2019s life cycle.<\/p>\n<p>As above mentioned, by opening an IFC file generated by any BIM authoring software that is certified by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buildingsmart.org\/\">buildingSMART<\/a>, you can find various entities and Pset (PropertySets) for the information exchange\u00a0 relating to the model.<\/p>\n<p>However, it may happen that the properties envisaged by the standard are not sufficient to communicate all aspects of the entire life cycle of a building.<\/p>\n<p>In these cases, the information system can be implemented by adding custom properties (<code>IfcPropertySet<\/code>). In an IFC file they are generated as references to external data and therefore do not modify the IFC schema. The wall properties are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><code>Reference<\/code>: this is a property defined by a single value that provides an object ID within the project (eg. tipo &#8220;A-1&#8221;);<\/li>\n<li><code>AcousticRating:<\/code> indicates the object\u2019s acoustic properties, such as its resistance to sound transmission (instead of providing the complete sound absorption values);<\/li>\n<li><code>FireRating:<\/code> indicates the fire resistance properties of materials according to the national fire classification;<\/li>\n<li><code>Combustible<\/code>: simply indicates whether the material is flammable (true) or not (false);<\/li>\n<li><code>SurfaceSpreadOfFlame:<\/code>indicates the way in which the flames spread around the material surface, according to national regulations on materials behaviour in case of fire;<\/li>\n<li><code>ThermalTransmittance:<\/code> indicates a material thermal transmittance coefficient (U value);<\/li>\n<li><code>IsExternal:<\/code> property that answers the question &#8220;is the object intended to carry loads (TRUE) or not (FALSE<em>)?&#8221;<\/em><\/li>\n<li><code>ExtendToStructure:<\/code> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">indica se l&#8217;oggetto si estende alla struttura sopra (VERO) o meno (FALSO);<\/span><\/li>\n<li><code>LoadBearing:<\/code>propriet\u00e0 che risponde alla domanda <em>&#8220;l&#8217;oggetto \u00e8 destinato a trasportare carichi (VERO) o meno (FALSO)?&#8221;<\/em><\/li>\n<li><code>Compartmentation:<\/code> indicates if the object is designed to act as a fire compartment (TRUE) or not (FALSE).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"custom-properties\">Custom properties<\/h2>\n<p>If the predefined properties are not sufficient or suitable for your project, you can customize them or create new ones.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"international-product-banner-desktop\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><a class=\"product-banner-link\" href=https:\/\/www.accasoftware.com\/en\/ifc-viewer target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/enfold-child\/img\/banner_prodotto\/usbim-viewer-en.jpg\" alt=\"usbim-viewer\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"international-product-banner-mobile\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><a class=\"product-banner-link\" href=https:\/\/www.accasoftware.com\/en\/ifc-viewer target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/enfold-child\/img\/banner_prodotto_mobile\/usbim-viewer-en.jpg\" alt=\"usbim-viewer\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>IfcPropertySet: the difference between predefined and custom properties.
