Here is a case study with videos and renderings inspired by the Cuboid House project<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Le_Corbusier%27s_Five_Points_of_Architecture\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">five points of architecture<\/a> proposed by <strong>Le Corbusier<\/strong> in 1926 have literally revolutionized the architectural design and the concept of a modern building ever since. The simple modules and forms based system, particularly the roof garden, represents one of his most\u00a0 important contribution to architecture.<\/p>\n<p>In a previous article we have found out how to represent it with an architectural BIM software, taking <strong>Villa Savoye <\/strong> as an example. All five points of the new architecture conceived by <strong>Le Corbusier <\/strong>have been applied to this project.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s now see how to design and build a garden roof for a multi-family residence getting inspired by the <strong>Cuboid House<\/strong>, a project created in 2012 in New Delhi by architect <strong>Amit Khanna<\/strong> from the architectural design studio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.akda.in\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>AKDA<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Architectural concept and the distribution of spaces in the Cuboid House<\/h3>\n<p>The Cuboid House is a <strong>multi-family residential building<\/strong> built in 2012 in New Delhi.<br \/>\nThe residence, located in the New Friends Colony area (south of New Delhi), covers a site of 1394 m2.<br \/>\nThe whole structure is made up of many cubic blocks in different sizes.<br \/>\nThe Cuboid House takes its name from this particular volumetric feature.<\/p>\n<p>The lower floors have a larger surface than the upper floors, allowing the sunlight to evenly reach all the house levels, especially the lower ones, which would otherwise be oppressed by the surrounding buildings.<\/p>\n<div sustainability.<br \/>\nLarge recessed windows, double height spaces and cantilevered blocks create a game of light and shadow lighting up and giving dynamism to the fa\u00e7ade.<\/p>\n<p>The building fa\u00e7ade is made of local stones (<strong>cudappah<\/strong> e<strong> jaisalmer teak<\/strong>), which have been chosen to characterize the cubic volumes of the building.<br \/>\nThe whole <strong>the\u00a0roof slab layers<\/strong> with <strong>Edificius, the <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.accasoftware.com\/en\/architecture-design-software\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>software for the architectural design<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Modelling a garden roof with a BIM software for the architectural design<\/h3>\n<p>You can start to model a garden roof using a BIM software selecting the<strong> Hole object <\/strong>from the Edificius<strong> toolbar<\/strong>. This serves as a container to insert the soil filling on the roof slab.<\/p>\n<p>Once inserted the filling in the hole object, we begin to position and organize the 3D objects (plants and trees) that we can find in the software general catalogue.<\/p>\n<p>It is possible to customize the hole by modifying its measures in the<strong> Geometry object section<\/strong>.<br \/>\nOnce the fillings and the green areas have been created, we can assign the material to the roof floor.
