Keeping up with new BIM technologies undoubtley requires a <a class=\"textualLink_usbim\" href=\"https:\/\/www.accasoftware.com\/en\/bim-management-system\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BIM management system<\/a> for <a class=\"textualLink_usbim\" href=\"https:\/\/www.accasoftware.com\/en\/bim-data-management-software\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BIM data management<\/a> and it is a high task for any stakeholder on the market.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>British standard <a href=\"https:\/\/biblus.accasoftware.com\/en\/withdrawal-of-pas-1192-the-english-bim-standard-will-be-combined-in-iso-19650\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PAS 1192<\/a><\/strong> provides a complete overview of the CDE and it is adopted to enhance <strong>interoperability using BIM<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The UK <a href=\"https:\/\/biblus.accasoftware.com\/en\/bim-maturity-levels-in-the-uk-working-towards-bim-level-3-for-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>government construction strategy<\/strong><\/a> required a <strong>fully 3D collaborative BIM environment<\/strong> by 2020\u00a0 (with all project and asset information, documentation and data being electronic) to be applied to a building lifecycle.<\/p>\n<p>The CDE also represents a minimum requirement for achieving level 3 BIM on all national public projects. Specifically, <strong>PAS 1192 series standards<\/strong>, where it was named <em>Common Data Environment<\/em>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_8739\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8739\" class=\"wp-image-8739 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/biblus.accasoftware.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/05\/Schema-funzionamento-CDE_Bim-management.jpg\" alt=\"Operating-Scheme-CDE_Bim-management\" width=\"700\" height=\"887\" srcset=\"https:\/\/biblus.accasoftware.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/05\/Schema-funzionamento-CDE_Bim-management.jpg 700w, https:\/\/biblus.accasoftware.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/05\/Schema-funzionamento-CDE_Bim-management-237x300.jpg 237w, https:\/\/biblus.accasoftware.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/05\/Schema-funzionamento-CDE_Bim-management-556x705.jpg 556w, https:\/\/biblus.accasoftware.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/05\/Schema-funzionamento-CDE_Bim-management-126x160.jpg 126w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-8739\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Operating scheme<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The CDE must satisfy the following aspects:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>accessibility<\/strong>, according to pre-established rules by all stakeholders involved in the process;<\/li>\n<li><strong>traceability <\/strong>and historical succession of revisions made to the data contained in the model;<\/li>\n<li>the support of a <strong>wide range of types and formats <\/strong>and their processing;<\/li>\n<li>high query flows and ease of access, admission and extrapolation of data (<strong>open data exchange protocols<\/strong>);<\/li>\n<li><strong>conservation and updating<\/strong> over time;<\/li>\n<li>guarantee of<strong> confidentiality and security<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"content-processing-levels\">Content processing levels<\/h2>\n<p>The process of moving the construction industry to \u2018full\u2019 collaborative working will be progressive, with distinct and recognisable milestones being defined within that process, in the form of \u2018levels\u2019:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>L0<\/strong> \u2013 processing \/ updating phase. The information content is still in the &#8220;processing&#8221; stage by the specific development team and is therefore not yet available to other operators<\/li>\n<li><strong>L1<\/strong> \u2013 sharing phase. The information content is considered complete only for some disciplines and therefore it is subject to eventual evolution and modification<\/li>\n<li><strong>L2<\/strong> \u2013 publishing phase. The information content is definitive and, although still subject to revision, none of the stakeholders need to make any changes<\/li>\n<li><strong>L3<\/strong> \u2013 archiving phase. It can be further distinguished in L3.V &#8211; archived but still &#8220;valid&#8221;; L3.S &#8211; archived but &#8220;exceeded\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The information flow is described graphically, highlighting the evolution of the processing and approval status and indicating the moments relating to verifications and coordination.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"gates-and-approval-status\">Gates and approval status<\/h2>\n<p>Closer collaboration is the key to realising the benefits of a BIM approach and, therefore, how information will be delivered across the project lifecycle needs to be carefully considered from the beginning.<\/p>\n<p>4 stages are also defined for the approval status, that can be classified as follows:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>To be approved<\/strong>. In this case the information content has not yet addressed the approval process<\/li>\n<li><strong>Approved<\/strong>. Information content has been approved with positive outcome<\/li>\n<li><strong>Approved with comment<\/strong>.Despite having passed the approval process, inadequacies were found that required mandatory interventions for usability for the intended purposes<\/li>\n<li><strong>Not approved<\/strong>. The process has received a negative outcome, requiring a profound revaluation of the information contained.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>From this perspective, these information delivery points, referred to as &#8220;<strong>gates<\/strong>&#8221; for the models produced and developed, can be considered key points during the project lifecycle.
