ACCA hosts the buildingSMART International Implementers Assembly 2026
Leading experts and developers from the global AECO sector gathered at ACCA’s headquarters in Bagnoli Irpino to shape the future of openBIM® and interoperability

On September 9 and 10, ACCA software hosted the buildingSMART International Implementers Assembly 2026 at its headquarters in Bagnoli Irpino, bringing together members of the global community working to develop and implement openBIM® standards.
Experts and software developers from across the international AECO sector came together to discuss key topics shaping the future of openBIM®. The two-day event provided an opportunity to share experiences, explore ongoing developments in open standards, and examine new scenarios for their practical application.
What is the Implementers Assembly?
The Implementers Assembly is an event dedicated to companies, developers, and technical experts actively involved in implementing buildingSMART standards in software and digital solutions.
Their work is essential to turning openBIM® standards into practical tools and functionalities for everyday professional workflows—from managing and exchanging IFC models to sharing information and enabling seamless collaboration across different software applications and platforms.
Bringing together the specialists who develop and implement these technologies creates a valuable opportunity to exchange experiences, gather feedback, identify potential challenges, and address real-world implementation needs. This ongoing dialogue contributes to the evolution of the standards and helps drive the development of increasingly effective, reliable, and interoperable openBIM® solutions
IFC5, IDS, and BCF 4.0: the topics at the center of discussions
The technical sessions addressed some of the most important developments for the future of openBIM®.
Among the topics discussed:
- the new architectures of IFC5;
- the evolution of the IDS (Information Delivery Specification) specifications;
- the certification of software;
- the BCF 4.0 (BIM Collaboration Format);
- the new use cases of openBIM®.
The working sessions were accompanied by moments of in-depth analysis in breakout sessions, dedicated to the analysis of specific use cases and the application scenarios that will characterize the next evolution of openBIM standards.
From Program 101 to the future of openBIM®
Among the most significant moments of the event was also a journey through the history of computing, with Guido Cianciulli, CEO of ACCA software, recounting the story of the Program 101, the famous Olivetti calculator considered the first desktop computer in history.
Participants were able to see the specimen kept in the ACCA corporate museum in operation, executing a historic program for geometric calculation, creating an ideal link between the origins of computing and contemporary technologies.
A path that reaches up to ACCA software’s commitment to openBIM® and interoperability in the construction sector: as a buildingSMART Multinational Member, ACCA participates in the international technical tables of the organization, contributing to the development of openBIM standards and technologies with the aim of fostering a digital ecosystem in which different software and platforms can communicate through shared formats and specifications, facilitating data exchange and collaboration among stakeholders throughout the lifecycle of projects.

An international experience in the heart of Irpinia
In addition to the technical aspects, the event was an opportunity to showcase the territory that hosts ACCA’s headquarters.
The nature and landscape of the Irpinian mountains accompanied the working days, creating a favorable environment for the exchange of ideas and the birth of new relationships.
The exploration of the territory continued through the local food and wine tradition and some convivial moments, which allowed international guests to get to know the hospitality and excellences of Irpinia more closely.

Implementers Assembly 2026 | ACCA software
Hosting the Implementers Assembly in Bagnoli Irpino has therefore represented an important opportunity for ACCA to welcome the international community that actively contributes to the evolution of openBIM® standards and, at the same time, to enhance the area where the company was born and continues to develop its technologies.
