How to use levels and generate the necessary drawing models for our projects with an architectural BIM design software?
The ability to quickly transfer the project from one application to the other without any loss of data allows those who work in BIM mode to provide their referrals with all the necessary information to proceed with the project’s design phase. This advantage, is particularly relevant during planning and design.
From architectural 3D design you can automatically produce project drawings and technical construction drawings (area plans, drawing models, cross-sections, elevation views, isometric views, project reports, comparison tables, schedules, etc).
Further on in this article we’ll see how to use levels and automatically generate the summary tables of a building using the architectural BIM design software Edificius, by ACCA software.
Automatic table generation of a building with BIM software
Let’s start off by simply creating the Edificius Project Floor Plans and Cross-Sections.
Using the levels management in Edificius is easy and very straight-forward for drawing objects and generating the project working drawings.
In the DRAWING MODELS section you can define the various levels, floor plan views, cross-section views, and elevation views.
To create a project elevation view – and this method also applies for the cross-section too – we’ll just trace an elevation line across the plan view in the desired level. This line represents the observation point from the building.
By clicking the elevation line’s arrow, you can change the viewing direction from one side to another.
In the same way, to create a cross-section of the project, simply trace the section line across the floor plan layout to cut through all entities and generate the corresponding view.
Drawing Models are generated automatically.

Edificius also allows the user to modify the model directly from the Drawing Model views.
In each drawing model view, instead of going back to the relating Level, by simply clicking on the “EDIT” button, you can activate edit mode and just introduce whatever modifications are necessary from there.

Editing the model directly from a Drawing Model view
It’s easy to define in each drawing, additional graphics, material layer details and the drawing scale.
