How to generate BIM objects from a simple 2D DXF/DWG CAD file
How to generate BIM objects from a simple 2D DXF/DWG CAD file to enhance your modelling capabilities? Let’s find out how easy this powerful tool can increase your productivity with a BIM Authoring software.
The technological switch from CAD to BIM is not just a transitional passage in the building construction world.
The BIM technology is progressively identified as an essential reference for the design, implementation and management of a construction work thanks to the advantages and efficiency that is being introduced.
Let’s try to clarify and show how to import a DWG/DXF file within a BIM Authoring architectural design software like Edificius.
This operation will allow to transform a digital file in a BIM model, after assigning the typical BIM objects characteristics to each block present within the project.
Importing a DXF/DWG file with a BIM Authoring software.
The possibility to import a 2D project into a BIM model will allow the designer and the entire technical team to easily compare and share the same model. A project including all the important features for the various branches of the construction field.
This way designers, maintainers, system installers and project managers will finally be able to communicate on a common interactive elaborate. Moreover, the design time will considerably be speeded up, being able to control a project in all its complexity.
From the Edificius Drawing model toolbar on the 2DGraphics section you can select the DXF/DWG Drawing function.
Then you select the drawing document to upload and before starting importing, you need to insert the dimensional factor necessary to reproduce the various DXF/DWG drawing units in meters.
You can position the drawing within the project.
At this point you need to carry out the recognition of the DXF/DWG drawing file necessary to automatically generate the file objects.
You can firstly proceed selecting the block to be designed (envelopes, ornamental walls, slabs, staircases etc.) thus automatically generating the various entities with a simple click thanks to the DXF DWG Magic Wand.
You can then work in the same way on the various other entities within the project.
In a short time, and in a very intuitive way, the CAD drawing will turn into a flexible BIM model.
